Christie Horne - Board Member

Christie graduated with her Masters degree in Tax Accounting from BYU and worked at Price Waterhouse in Dallas upon graduation. After a few years, she transitioned into high-end fashion retailing when she was accepted into Neiman Marcus' Executive program. She loved the analytical and fast-paced dynamics of the buying offices but when an opportunity to move to Austin, TX came about, her excitement to experience something new had again been ignited.

While in Austin, Christie became involved with various nonprofit organizations to help them with their growth and fundraising strategies. As a board member and eventually as chair president for Girls Empowerment Network, she was a key asset to growing the organization over 300 percent during the eight years she was directly involved.

After being married for 13 years, Christie and her now former husband decided to start a family. They have two adventuresome daughters who are navigating their teen years with empathy and curiosity. Christie loves being a mom and creating fun experiences that bring people together to discover their shared humanity. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, learning anything new that adds pensive perspective on life and relationships and traveling the world with her daughters.

Christie is grateful to be the oldest of her eight siblings and feels honored to serve on the board of her father’s company. Her wisdom, thoughtfulness and financial experience in several sectors give her the ability to strategize and make the best decisions possible that provide for continued growth and intrinsic value for The Horne Companies.

Ben Horne - Board Member

Ben Horne has been around real estate development his entire life. His father, Gregory G Horne, started Horne Companies in Washington, DC back in 1976 and was successful in leaving a legacy for his children and grandchildren to help manage.

Ben, while impressed by his father’s success, went a slightly different route in his career. He received his Computer Science degree from Utah Valley University in 2009 and has always operated in various areas of the tech sector. Currently he works for a large company creating and developing digital curriculum for K-12 students worldwide.

While his career keeps him busy enough, Ben has an entrepreneurial spirit like his father, and he and his wife started their own real estate business in Utah, beginning with single family rentals and student housing. They plan to grow this side of their endeavor and also get into the commercial space of real estate.

In 2018, Ben joined The Horne Companies as a board member. His tech savviness and analytic approach has allowed him to make key contributions to both old and new projects the board has taken on. Ben and his siblings each have direct ownership in several projects, which makes him all the more disciplined and aware of the choices the board makes on various real estate and financial negotiations.

In his spare time, Ben loves watching the financial markets. He is intrigued by the crypto exchange and is always curious to learn more about the individual use cases of the top coins. Ben also enjoys traveling with his wife and three children and exploring the diversity of new restaurants. He rarely tries the same thing twice.

Debbie Horne - Board Member

Deborah Delsie Mackay Horne was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Donald and Mary Mackay. She has four older sisters and two younger brothers. At age 12, she and her siblings were uprooted from their life of four beautiful seasons with a move to the dry Arizona desert where the only change in weather was hot and hotter. But, with love and help from their community, new seeds were planted and strong roots began to take hold and grow.

Shortly after becoming familiar with her new surroundings, Debbie recalls a young boy named Greg who was smitten with her. So much so that at age 13 he told her he was going to marry her. Debbie was intriqued, yet not at all ready to be swept off her feet by Greg’s emboldened words. But, as time moved forward, the families became friends and after Greg returned from serving a mission in Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he and Debbie were married in Mesa, AZ. They were ready to begin their life together and embark on a new adventure!

After graduating with his degree in accounting from Brigham Young University, Greg and Debbie were presented with the opportunity to move to the Washington, DC area to manage his father’s investments. After nearly eight years, he and Debbie branched out on their own and formed The Horne Companies, LLC in 1983 in Vienna, VA. They began investing in properties of interest to them, all while continuing to run his father’s ongoing investments. The business flourished, as did their family. He and Debbie had nine children, three daughters and six sons, each with their own distinct personalities that brought great joy into their lives. While Greg managed their various investments in real estate, Debbie managed the home front. Her talent for creativity has no bounds, especially if projects have no constraints. She has an inate ability for interior design and could invision projects and execute on making them come to fruition. Her unique talent for sewing beautiful home furnishings and clothing without patterns gave her decorating fashionable flare. She not only designed their beautiful home, but was also instrumental in decorating many of the model homes and commercial properties Greg developed. Aside from interior design, Debbie has boundless energy to create party themes and decor for various events, develop fun games that kept her children and now 34 grandchildren entertained, cut/color hair with style, sing/dance with joyful ease, volunteer on humanitarian projects and develop relationships with everyone, regardless of their age. Her open and easy going manner instantly makes one feel welcome in her presence. While Greg and Debbie loved their life in the Washington, DC area, the time had come after almost 25 years to return to their childhood roots in Mesa, AZ. The couple wanted to be closer to extended family and their five of nine children who had already left home for areas west of the Mississippi River. The move was successful and allowed them to not only be near to family and focus on various investments closer to Arizona, but also on a technology company, IPRO, that Greg and Debbie and their childhood best friends had founded in 1989. IPRO was a grand adventure and aside from the family they created, one of their most successful endeavors.

Unfortunately, Debbie lost her partner in life and business in 2018 when Greg passed away quite unexpectedly from cancer. They had embraced his Parkinson’s with dignity and grace in 2007, but his death at age 67 was a devasting loss for the family. With great courage, Debbie stepped into her new role as sole leader of all she and Greg had created. She is currently Vice President of Horne Companies, LLC and seeks to continue the legacy she and Greg developed. Her creative thinking, ability to find positivity/humor in all things and desire to leave the world a better place enable her to be a passionate leader for her family and the business she and her husband started many years ago.
